Powerbook repair question

Don't where to put this so here will do.

I have an old G3 firewire powerbook that used as a back up, but I stored in it's box without removing the battery and six months later opened up to find it had imploded. I acknowledge it''s useless with a severely cracked case but:

• Is there anything the Apple store could do to salvage what was sat on the hard drive, or failing that a cheap way of reclaiming the data.

• Is it worth trying to flip it for whatever spare parts here are left in it.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to take out the hard disk and put it in an external HDcase and use it as an external drive. Thats what I did with a otherwise dead G4 iBook.

Instructions for dismantling these things are available on the web.

It's not that difficult and a HD case should cost about £25

edit: sorry did you mean the HD is fucked.... if so ignore my advice.....

Take it out and have a look. You might need a torx screwdriver set, I got one for three quid from the hardware shop. It took me about an hour or so to dismantle my ibook

http://www.directusbstore.co.uk/ is where I got my case from. I think you just have to get the smaller one for laptop hard drives but you can see what you need when you get the HD out.

(makes mental note to check similarly stored G3 powerbook when next at home...)
