i just finished reading the third book from the "shortcomings' series, and not surprisingly at all, it was brilliant funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

any tomine fans here?

I was never a constant fan but I enjoy his work. My girl has some of his prints up in our kitchen and even though I see them every day I still find myself staring at them a lot.

I like Tomine a lot. Summer Blond is my favorite. He does the best New Yorker covers too.

i've only read issues 5-11. i've been meaning to pick up sleepwalk for quite some time now. it's books 1-4, right?

issue 12 can't come fast enough...

Yeah, after going on about Tomine to a friend who is much more knowledgeable about comics than me, she gave me The Push Man. Tomine edited and wrote the intro, right? That is some dark shit, but very moving. Tomine's work still resonates more with me, but I think that's because I'm a less sophisticated reader.

So Shortcomings is a compilation of the last 3 issues, and #11 came out in March - guess I missed all that.

#9-#11 were parts of a collective story. definitely check it out, it's some of his best work to date.
