not my deal, but my favorite station could go silent on july 15 along with most other net broadcasters if congress doesn't do anything to stop some fucked up new copyright policies/royalty rates from taking effect

i'm sure i don't have to tell you this would have a huge negative impact on music scenes basically everywhere in the us, and leave us with even fewer alternative to clear channel's bullshit

it actually was the copyright royalty board, which is for whatever reason an arm of the library of congress(?), that set the new rates, independent of any explicit congressional action

the only hope for most net broadcasters at this point is legislation pending before congress, so it's important for people to contact their reps and senators

yeah but these rates are not going to the artist but to the owners of the performance rights, which in most cases are record companies.

this will happen regardless of the action people take. internet is getting shit on by the government and soon enough there will be a big division on "legal" and "illegal" internet. luckily the encryption/anonymity technology is growing very fast and let's hope soon enough the internet will be a free place again.
