quick american apparel question

Recommended Posts

I just have a quick question that i dont think would be answered as good if i put it in the small questions thread.

I came back from american apparel and i had never bough tshirts there except for 1 of the tri blends and my mom told me that american apparel shrinks a lot and not im a little scared since the fit is almost spot on.

If the i pull the hem completly down, it stops at about 22.5 centimeters below my belly button (or 11.5 bellow where i wear my pants). I can pinch about 2 centimeters on each side without the shirt pulling.

Should i size up or should i wash cold and hope it doesnt shrink.

by the way, i dont think not drying it in the dryer is an option cuz i dont do the laundry (except for my jeans) and the shirt is bound to end up on the dryer.

thank you in advance

mods please delete this after a couple of useful posts:)

Not what you want to hear but you probably want to cold wash and not machine dry. AA stuff shrinks in length and also stretches in width, leaving you with a much box-ier shirt than the one you bought. The last bunch of AA shirts I bought haven't seen a dryer and they are all holding up very well after a couple dozen washes.

Also, I think that as you size up the shirts gain more in width than in length.

I accidently dried on of my v's from AA and it shrunk a full size, so I rewashed and then stretched it out over a chair to dry and it fit like normal after that. But if your talking about the tri-blend they dont shrink in the dryer.

any of those shirts with a significant amount of poly in them will shrink much less... hence the recommendations of 50/50 and tri blends. I find they shrink in length some, but not much elsewhere.

seriously though, do your own laundry

finally, it's much easier to just stretch the shirt a little before wearing it each time than to be stuck w a too big shirt... just my experience

the 50/50 and tri blends, as stated, shrink very minimally if at all. and they also don't stretch out much with wear either, so the way it fits in the store is pretty much how it will stay. its the 2001's you really have to watch out for shrinkage with. not so much in the chest, but the length will shrink a shit ton if you dry them on medium or higher. personally i go with the sheer jersey summer shirts from aa. they don't shrink nearly as bad as the 2001's and they are much softer and stretchier than any of their other offerings.
