Dior makes "dry" denim?

Stopped by the 57th St store the other day. They had a pair of black, stiff, rough, jeans with that unmistakeable unwashed/dry denim sheen. They are a bit softer than most dry denim though, not nearly as stiff and rigid as APC or Nudies. I was intrigued so I tried them on. Salesperson gave me the whole "don't wash them" lecture. Strange thing was...he was insisting that if I were to buy them, I was NEVER to wash them. If they get dirty I can dry clean but never ever wash he said. So in actuality it was half of the "How to wear dry denim" lecture. My question to anyone who knows is -- is this for real? Are these really dry denim? And if so, can't I just break them in and wash them to get the fade like we've been discussing here? Why is this guy telling me not to wash them period?

Strange, it didn't post the first time. Here goes again: Was at the 57th St store the other day and came across a pair of "dry" black jeans. They did look like unwashed denim but they weren't as stiff as APC or dry Nudies. Salesperson insisted however that they were not to be washed..ever! (Basically half of the "How to wear dry denim" lecture..with the part about the first wash left out). So therefore he suggested I get the size that fits me perfectly. I wondering if anyone knows...are these typical dry jeans? If I were to get them, could I send them through the whole wear-6-months-then-wash business? Wouldnt' that mean I'd have to get a size up? Who knows anything about them?

I'm not familiar with those particular jeans, but you don't necessarily need to by a size up in dry denim. Some denims shrink more than others and sanforized denims don't shrink at all (negliable shrinkage). The salesperson should know the shrinkage and advise accordingly.

Regarding washing : You could always give them a one-wash before wearing without compromising the ability to achieve high contrast fading. See the links for washed jeans here: http://superfuture.com/city/supertalk/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=817&start=91

One long (a few hours at least) cold soak in water would sort out the shrinkage and not remove that much indigo.

There are a few advantages of doing a one-wash:

They may fit better (if you've bought shrink-to-fit).

Moving whiskers/knee patches - with dry shrink-to-fit there's the risk of wearing in nice whiskers and knee patches and then see them moving upwards/across and 'out of place' when washed.

Hems - you'll get the hems to roll after washing, rather than lay flat, so you'll achieve more contrasts on the hem post wash.

They'll be more comfortable as much of the starch will have been removed after washing - but if you want to put the stiffness back, just spray starch onto them.

They'll bleed less on furniture, shoes, etc.

'course you may also want to wash them before 6 months for hygiene's sake icon_smile_big.gif

Actually these were the "cheapest" jeans there. The others, the washed black, the washed blue and the so called "vintage" pairs were in the high $400 to $500 range!!!! These stiff unwashed ones were like $285 I think. I'm only asking because I'm wondering if there is such a thing as dry denim so delicate that one is NEVER to wash them as the salesperson claims. Perhaps he just assumed I wouldn't know how to care for them or wear them in so to be on the safe side he told me never to wash them? I'm intrigued because these are the first black pair of dry denim I've ever seen and I'm wondering what they might look like after breaking them in.

Dior does selvage. Not only black (the one mentioned here is black?).

Seems very nice, it is Japanese, the cut almost identical to APC, the denim a little different.

Identical to NS or Cure/tight. DH jeans are usually a lot more tappered than NS if I'm not mistaken so they'd be perceived as similar to tight/Cure APC jeans
