Trying to crack the Levi's tag

I'm stuck trying to figure out the numbers on the white Levi's tags. I have a pair of mid 70's mens 517's.

The white tag says:

386 B 23

517-0217

7 79 16

51957-4

I think that the 0217 is the "wash" number. I'm not sure, though. But, if it is, what is the "wash"?

I read on another site that there are sites for cracking these tag numbers. Does anyone care to share those websites? Or, do they really exist?

0217 is the denim. there were no "washes" as such.

Take a pic of the tag and post it...that might help because the tag on my LVC's differs from those I've seen on others. Mine looks more like a normal levi's tag, with the batwing on it (for reference, I have f/w 2005, distressed 47 501's). Check out the "Addicted to LVC" thread for lots of info tags.

Hmm...that looks nothing like my tag. I would guess that the bottom number is probably the model number...but as I mentioned before, check out the LVC thread and maybe you'll gain some info from there. Are you worried about authenticity or just curious?

I've learned alot, from these boards, about how to spot vintage Levi's. BarTacs, selvedge, rivets, etc....

But, I'm just really curious what these numbers mean.

I sent a email to Lynn Downey at Levi's, with this question. Whatever I hear from her, I'll come back to this thread and post what she told me.
