Or is my one rubbish?. I have this excellent sweatshirt which was on sale however, its a size too big. The problem is my alterator says she can't shorten the sleeves, however, can a good alterator shorted the garment i.e length if though it has that stretchy stuff at the bottom.

obviously it is harder, but she could unpick the stitches there, cut, and resew the original ribbing back on, or just find a matching ribbing from a craft store.

obviously it can be done, but its a much bigger job than altering a straight hem like on a pair of trousers or something.

if the tailor didn't want to deal with the ribbing, he/she could shorten it from the shoulder. so yes, yours is rubbish.
