Male Modeling

Some of the people in say, Burberry Prorsum and Costume National are rather thin.

It's really the brands that cater to gay men such as the insidious D&G and the incestual twins' DSquared that have really muscular models. Frankly, you need a large body to fit into those clothes too.

It went well, they even put me up on their website the next day. They promote the guys from europe a lot more since they invest a lot of cash in them to make them come here... it's cool though.

I have a pretty good casting tomorrow for a year long campaign for a MAJOR company (I pretty much fit what they want perfect, down to the language so I'm excited to see how it'll go at the casting). You might have see my face on tv for a while haha.

i would have thought it easier for euporeans (depending on the country of course) to get to japan on the working holiday status then americans since america is not offerred (i think).

is it true that japanese modelling agenices take an astronomical percent of your pay?

It's because skinny models are easier to work with on the runway. You will very rarely see a male runway model with a lot of muscle; makes it hard to fit into pants.

Most of the "athletic" models work strictly in print.

i would agree. Good tailoring and stylish silhouettes are easier to show off on a slim, elongated body versus a boxy frame. And a point on the more "muscular" models...some of them aren't even muscular in real life! All of them are cut and sometimes that gives the illusion of musculature and size. I've run into a few models here in the city that I recognize from the print ads etc and I've always been shocked at how unassuming they are, they're not these 280lb alpha males that you'd expect.

A friend of mine modeled in two cloak runway shows, and was even the starter and ender in the FW 06/07 show and only got paid like $250 a show. I guess it's not THAT bad for a few minutes of walking, but unless you are getting super steady work(which is really hard in the male modeling world) it's pretty much impossible to live off, especially in a major fashion city like NYC.

why does everyone think being skinny is the new holy grail to modeling?

read to much articles about hedi slimane? cause he's the only one that uses really skinny ones, and they're not models, they're just kids he picks up on the streets that after the dior show never model again.

while it is true that most of the dh boys are not professionals, everybody knows a small minority of them (david lindwall, fagerli, jack brennan, lars, tell carlson etc etc.) belong to agencies and are pretty well-established as far as male models go (ie. they didn't just do 1 dh show and never worked again.) more over, as most of the the aforementioned boys (and then some) pop up every season at ann dem, number nine, etc etc it's fair to say dh isnt the only one that uses especially skinny boys -- albeit hedi is obviously the most toted for it.

but i do agree that with the rise of dh every slightly waifish kid with tight pants thinks they are model material, or their friend who follows fashion encourges them to 'try it out' blah blah blah. yeah but i think beyond having 'good style' (which is basically irrelevant as you will not be dressing yourself.) or being lanky/slim which are not all the unusual these days, you have to be extreamly PHOTOGENIC> that means photograph really well or atleast interestingly. and i know some of the dh boys flirt with the ugly as hell thing, but the lot of them actually have amazing bone structure/faces -- better than a lot of the more noted female models i think.

the yellowpages actually are a good place to start. look up agencies, most of them have a few days a week you can stop in and they can check you out...who knows. LOOK OUT Bryan Adams, you might just be the new face at John richmond:eek:

I recently got an offer to take some shots from a local photographer, and I guess I'll pursue it, but I'll go with escorts.

Can't have any risky business going down.

I'm not interested in making it a career but I think it could have potential for some cool life experineces.

Y'know, spice things up a bit.

and then there's gaspard ulliel who only walked one season for dior homme (luster) but ended up being a fairly well-respected actor today... who also seems to have a penchant for dior homme in all of his public appearances/shows.

Happened to me too. First time I got free shots wearing whatever the hell I wanted. Second time with another photographer approached me to take shots and that I should pursue modeling. I'm not gonna lie, it got pretty creepy once he started mentioning I could make a thousand dollars off Hanes underwear ads...so yeah, that was the end of that.

^who cares, as long as you get paid for walking down a catwalk, that it's not a big achievement, obviously modelling isn't because you didn't work hard to get that great bone structure
