Real or Fake?

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a pair of "Evisu" jeans from a thrift shop for the price of a burrito. I wasn't sure if they were the genuine article, but for the price, who cares?

Anyway, I'll give you the details, you give me the lowdown.

-All hardware (buttons, rivets) say EVISU.

-crotch rivet

-hidden back pocket rivets

-bottom of back pocket is lined with off-white cotton

-black gull embroidered on right back pocket, red gull on left

-ring-ring yarns (I think; it's slubby both ways)

-leather waist patch has the Evisu buddha, but no size or lot number

-plain stitched, not chainstitched hem

-"selvage" is more like a white thread that's been tightly zigzag stitched with a red thread stitched down the middle of it, rather than being woven right into the cloth.

-Washing instructions are all in English, no Japanese

Thanks for your help

Thanks,

The outseam is serged. I wasn't aware that Evisu made any non-selvage jeans.

I guess I shouldn't really care whether the jeans are real or fake, so long as they fit, but it still makes me feel good to get such a pickup (despite the fact that Evisu catches so much crap on these boards)

Evisu says on their website that all their jeans are selvage, but I have owned a pair of broken twill wrangler blue bell copies that were not and my g-friend has a pair that are not selvage. Actually, most of the women's ones are not selvage denim, in fact some are stretch denim.

Carpe Denim!

I dunno, they sound fake. If you are in Toronto this dumbass store on yonge street called NYC is carrying fake evisu, they have an inseam with the serged inseam as described above. I was so pissed that they are selling fake stuff in retail but what can you do.
