As much as I don't like Portugal I have to put them as one of the contenders. Besides not having a great out-and-out striker they have everything to win this tournament. If they don't get Germany in the second round they could reach the final. (As long as Christina Ronaldo is not taking the penalties)

Petr Cech is not the problem for them. They need someone to score goals and with Baros, Koller not being able to his a barn door with a banjo they need everyone to chip in with the goals. Their strong side is the manager and their versitality. They can change the style of play on the fly and attack from different areas. It's a shame that Rosicky won't be playing, he can change the game with one strike or pass.

havn't seen them since last eurocup, they played boring soccer and to much defense in their strategy. they play inan open group, to me Spain will finish first in the group and the second place is open to all the other teams which all have a good chance.

well he's left footed and we have no one naturally at that position so i'm not sure if it would mean the end for anyone per se except fringe players like boateng and taraabt. i suspect ramos is going to try and replace the entire starting midfield over the summer (malbranque, jenas, zokora, lennon) as he did the back line during 07-08. of those four i would keep all of them except maybe zokora as cover. ramos is pretty fond of malbranque and to a lesser extent, jenas so at the very least i don't see them going anywhere over the next season.

the idea of a bale/dos santos left side is pretty tasty, at least on paper.

never knew he was left footed, i always see him attacking for barca from the right (cutting inside) or from the center. he would seem not to track back a lot so bale would have his hands full the whole time but the partnership does sound promising. he definitely has flair and ability to move the ball (with an eye for goal) but i wonder how will he play against stronger defenders in quicker tempo. price is not bad for a very promising youngster but maybe you guys should consider riise for one third of that?

from what i remember he is still under the youth contract and was negotiating his senior deal. i think he wanted a lot more than they were willing to offer and started looking around for a bigger paycheck. looks like barca will have a major clear-out this summer so maybe they figure that he can bring some money. i don't think they paid anything for him, they had him since he was probably 2 years old.
