i tried doing a search about this but the search function isn't working (at least for me). i looked at what was posted in the encyclopaedia but it was more about the technique rather than where to go. i'm looking for a tailor in los angeles that can do a chainstitch hem for me. i called up denim doctor on third st. (they changed their name to something else) they said a group of their tailors left and took their chain stitch machine with them. they said there was someone in the valley but if i could find someone on the westside or the southbay i'd prefer it. anyone got an idea?

The place is called Dr. Blue Jeans. It's located in Sherman Oaks, on the corner of Van Nuys Blvd. and Moorpark St. (behind the In-N-Out). They charge $15 for a chain stitch, and the turn around time can range from two days to a week. I've had one pair of jeans hemmed / chain stitched there and it was alright, not as great a job as Gordon (from BiG) does but they're one of the few places in LA that can do chain stitching.

There will be a new denim store on fair oaks..(?) not sure (it's next to a Pool table store) called Rising Sun or Rising Denim...

Any idea what they are carrying? I remember someone mentioning that they saw that store under construction.

The store is still under construction. Over at SF, LA Guy or Get Smart mentioned awhile back that Rising Sun was going to produce their own line w/ denim sourced from Japan. They're also going to carry other lines but I can't remember which brands were specifically mentioned. We should hit up LA Guy / Get Smart for an update or something. It would be so rad to have a denim store like Self Edge or BiG in so cal.

Rising Sun & Co.

We have opened our doors here in OLD TOWN PASADENA as of June 7th 2008.

weve seen allot of support so far from the denim community (thank you) to clear up a few things, our selvage denim is all from the U.S. and we do offer tailoring services as well as custom made. Come in and see us at 107 South Fair Oaks AVE Pasadena CA 91105 everyday 12noon to 6pm, all the jeans are constructed in the store using turn of the century Industrial Singers so stop by and check it out.:)

I can vouch for Rising Sun. I was in there about 2 months ago with a few friends. They had their jeans chainstiched and I had the crotch blowout on my Warehouse contest jeans fixed. They do an incredible job and their shop is simply amazing. My friend went back a few weeks later and bought a pair of Rising Sun jeans.
