Thoughts on selvage at Topman, UK

Just thought I'd post my thoughts as I tried a pair of these on when I was picking up some plain tees today. £35 for the record. Jeans are raw, and judging by the fit I think they shrink to tag size. There's straight legs and tapers available, I tried on the tapers. Size 26 and up.

Pros:

Longer inseams than the Gap Morrison, which has a pitiful 30 inch inseam in the lowest sizes. They come with a 2 inch cuff as standard, so a 28x32 is actually a 28x34, I think judging by the stacking.

Unlike the Gap jeans, there's no fake wax-treated honeycombing and crap on them.

Nice fit at the bottom, not ankle-tight but tapered enough to sit nicely on your sneaks.

Unlike the H&M Sliq, which goes for a similar price in the UK, they're not only better quality but more importantly 100% cotton, which means they won't be hanging off your arse within a week if you're a skinny guy (I'm a 26, the Sliq bottoms out at 27 which will stretch to a 29... do the math).

Cons:

The selvage stitching is nothing to show off really.

Ugly arctuate stitching, but that's a 1 minute job with a seamripper.

Denim felt a bit light compared to the 501s I was wearing.

Overall I was surprised by these considering the godawful quality of most high street jeans. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the UK and looking for some budget raw selvage.

yes i'm glad i never bought them..denim feels flyweight something like 9oz. or less. you are better off with the cheaper 501 stf than this

They did feel light compared to my Levis, but on the other hand washed jeans are always heavier. The jeans will gain a couple of ounces of weight after they've shrunk down.

just goes to prove...just because it's selvage, doesn't mean it's good.....

thank you for the thread I was looking for something to use in a meeting on just this point

if you can't do it well don't do it

Looks ok, but Id probably just buy Uniqlo, H&M, or Gap over these.

Eh, all those run big though... the Gap jeans are huge in the ass and short in the inseam, and the H&Ms are stretch denim and only go down to a 27, which equals a 29 in real terms. If you're a 26 like me and looking for cheap dry denim, these are probably the best best I reckon, though it's a bitch to find 26s as they always understock.

Then again, my Ande Whalls will be here in a few days so bollocks to Topman :P
