Hey Guys,

you guys have an recommendatinos on selling this kind of stuff on Ebay? My girl wants to sell her LV and Coach bags but I don't know how I can differentiate his from the thousand of fakes out there? It would be one thing if she had the reciepts but of course she doesn't. Any advice or recommendations from the people who have done it?

On the LV there are some things that you can point out to show that its not a fake:

- If you have the receipt take a photo of it, receipts are written on thick cremeish-yellow paper with a large brown LV print on it.

- Serialnumber, in every authentic LV bag after 1980 theres a serial number. Placed different places in each different model. But beware not only authentic bags has this, fakes aswell.

- The "LV monograms" on the bag are NEVER cut through (only on the small "Alma"-bag

There are lots of more things to look out for, but the best way to tell a real from a fake is feeling the quality of it.. That does the trick..

Seems everything has been covered. But, I have learned that giving them a quick tutorial with your piece is a good way to sell the product. For example, "Authentic LVs, with the exception of smaller bags, never have the monograms cut through. Here, in picture 3, you can see that the monogram is intact and has not been cut". This might seem wordy but it helps.

As for Coach. They're a dime a dozen and the fakes do a damn good job. So a good picture of the receipt should help a lot. Also mention the store that the items were purcahsed in. Anything to give the buyer some assurance, and a sense of legitimacy.

Mention the 5 sided snap holes (real LV's have 5 beveled edges on the holes, most fakes use round holes) and if your digital camera is good enough, get a pic of one.

Edit: Erm, upon furthur thought, I'm not sure if all LV's do this. I'll have to take a look. In the meantime, if it has straps, take a picture of the stitching where it meets the bag, note the even stiches (same number of stiches on each side) in the auction, most fakes fuck that up. Also, take a picture of the Louis Vuitton logo on the inside, note the perfect font. LV uses a unique font, the V's and O's are weird, fakes fuck that up too.

set a reserve price that you'll be happy to get...otherwise you'll get buyers who may not think its real, and you may end up selling it for much less than you'd be happy to get. Other than that, lots of pictures of smaller details that show authenticity. There are a couple guides to buying authentic LV and coach that appear to the left in links when you search for LV and coach. Read them to find out what will differentiate your product from the fakes and then take pictures of those aspects, while mentioning the authenticity guides in your auctions.
