The need to soak a denim jacket?

I recently picked up this Tenderloin jacket http://caliroots.com/data/product/images/502620065220133017875286_L.jpg . It´s pretty lovely and fit well. Does anyone know if Tenderloin sanforize? Guess not..

Is there any point in soaking it? I mean, you don´t really wash a jacket in the same way wash your sweaty pants, so shrinking later on doesnt seem like a real big problem.

On the other hand, its really stiff and I fear that the denim will "crack" in sharp folds and thus break with wear. Thats an argument for soaking.

Main thing is that I dont really want to fuck up the sizing which is pretty much on point right now. Bunch of pros and cons..

Sorry for the ramble, but I need some true supergay advice.:o

for whatever it's worth, the owner of this flathead 6002w jacket got it raw. then he washed the jacket in a washing machine and threw them in a dryer to get the starch out and get the full shrinkage. then right after that, he quickly cold washed it again, this time without any detergent, and air dried it. this way, the denim became nice and rigid again because the denim was too soft after going through the dryer.

in your case, it sounds like you just want to cold soak/wash your jacket to get some starch out, and maybe that's all you're going to need.

anything NOT sanforized tends to have some sort of paper labelling on it somewhere telling you to expect shrinkage and what %.

hope that makes sense.

also, the opposite is true (in my experience) sanforized denim items dont bother to list shrinkage as its normally quite negligible, or, it will shrink to the specific measurements given on the tag.

hope that helps.

Thanks!

I kinda thought the same, and there are no labeling regarding shrinking, but on the other hand, most japanses brands dosent sanforize, right? Quite difficult to tell..

Wow.. this is a topic I thought about last night because I was cleaning my closet. I found an exactly same jacket as chicken's picture posted up there (well, not exactly the same, only one pocket). It's raw, and on the label says will shrink about 10% if washed. I am normally a size 36, and the jacket is a size 40.. Do you guys have any suggestion (if it's possible, and the best way to do it) to shrink this raw jacket (never been worn) to a size 36? and not Fing up the fabric so much?

i think what you have is a type 1 jacket. if you haven't yet, you might want to take the actual measurements of your type 1 jacket as well as other jackets that fit you well and compare. because most denim jackets, i find, are not the exact same size as what's on the tag. just because it says it's size 40 doesn't mean it actually measures 40" at the chest. so that could change your math.
