Hello SuperTalk!!!

Ok, I'm shooting a short film next month and I have been trying to find a specific style for my character that I play in my short film. I have a few ideas but Im having the hardest time trying to find them online or on Ebay and I thought yous would be more of a help. So i wanna go with a Vintage style...

Here's a screenshot of my characters - I play STYLE the first one on the top left...

http://www.injoeface.com/TheShake.jpg

Here are some of Styles "characteristics"

-He's the boss of the crew

-Smooth with the ladies

-Old School "Mafia oriented" meaning he's got the Old School respect like they did back in the days

-He's Stylish

-From Brooklyn, NY

-Italian

And Here's what I was thinking to dress my character....

-Fedora or Kangol hat

-Leather brown jacket (FightClub jacket)

http://i21.ebayimg.com/01/i/07/97/47/26_1.JPG

http://i19.ebayimg.com/04/i/07/97/42/ba_1.JPG

-possibly a turtule neck (not sure on the color yet)

http://i16.ebayimg.com/05/i/08/2b/ed/da_1.JPG

http://i9.ebayimg.com/05/i/08/22/21/90_1.JPG

-Gray shinny dress pants

http://i18.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/05/12/41_1.JPG

-60's Beatles Motorcycle boots - you know the vintage boots the Beattles used to wear!

http://i12.ebayimg.com/02/i/08/31/50/5e_1.JPG

-And I need Mafia Sunglasses - you know when you see shades that have a fade from the top of the lense to the buttom... Dark on top (black) and fades down to clear at the buttom.. so this way you ca'nt really see the eyes you can only see the buttom of the eyes... Also i want the frames to be very large...

something like this: http://aram.free.fr/divx/images/donnie_brasco_front.jpg

SO PLZZZZZZZZ folks if you have any suggestions or images pleaseeeee hook me up - i wanna see your ideas and much appreciated it :)

I'm guessing your a big fan of those films, as that drawing looks like the introduction from one of his films, as in the security monitors following the faux-jews. The name even seems pretty derivative (spelling?), although most of these crime-ish sort of films have pretty similiar names.

Good luck.

You bet mate, all crime/comedy shorts even features are constructed in the same way this is why their classified as a genre on their own (Crime/Comedy)

Mass; That's a fantatic pic mate.... would be UNREAL to dress my characters like that... very very DOPE!!!!

Thanks keep the ideas coming if you got anymore that is ;)))

my best,

Joey Dee

Go gaudy! Make him look like a young version of Maury from Zoolander! Animal print shirts, cords, gold and velvet blazers!

If I was the head of a crimering, id dress so gaudy people would want to make fun of me. But they wouldnt, because id... KILL EM! Thats power.

Now that I think of it... watch an anime called Lupin the Third. Or Lupin III.

Hes got that kinda 70s retro style.

i think the turtle neck and the jacket are okay;

and I agree with the cords as mentioned by mick; would go perfect with the 2nd fedora

for the shoes something like clarks metro grooves; any opinions on that style ?

the glasses are a problem; you could use raybans g 19

depends on the level of crime boss you're talking about...

just the head of a street level crew would be relatively flashy, trying to show off to people within his organization and without

a really high level mafioso would be dressed to the hilt, but not necessarily flashy, just expensive tailoring all around...

www.oki-ni.com has some vintage aviators straight from the 70s...they're sick as hell, but are a little bit pricey...

Deffo... my characters are small time street gangsters... the image mass suggested is great but I will continue to find something more "today" i guess for lack of better words... and in one scene they are in a 2006 bmw so I can't have these characters dressed like they were in 1930 ahahah ;) but i love that style tho...

also mate WOW that shop is sooooo expensiveeeeeeeee "OKI-NI.com" wow... i dont have that buget mate :(

Honestly i been searching everywhere for Mafia sunglases with the thick faded lense from black or brown and fades to clear at the buttom... again appreciate allll ur help mates... and deff I will keep you posted on this project if any is interested in viewing behind the scenes stuff ;)

Here are some extra storyboard snapshots of the opening scene... you can see my hand writing and little notes on the storyboard... just so if ur confused what it means...

Check out the movie Brick for a good example of vintage dress pulled off in modern times. Very cool costume work on most of the characters. (images on imdb)

Also, Oki-ni is equivalent or cheaper to most of the clothes the people in this forums wear so I doubt you'll get many suggestions in a price range below that besides H&M or thrift stores.

In terms of less expensive vintage style sunglasses, I would say you have two options, depending on your time constraints.

Either hit thrift stores in your area and work with what they have. The advantage is this could be done in one or two trips, and wouldn't end up costing you too much. Disadvantage is the glasses would be less quality, depending on your luck, and would probably somewhat show the lack of quality when filmed. Option two would be to scour the ebay sunglass section for a week or two, watching auctions on vintage designer sunglasses in the styles you need. I've gotten sunglasses from all sorts of high name designers that still look classy as hell for anywhere from $15-50 dollars. A way to keep the price low would be to look for the used ones that have a few minor scratches on them (nothing deeply visible), because these will likely go for much less due to the reluctance most buyers have to buying even barely scratched glasses.

Other than that, you could try actual vintage stores, but from what I've seen in the past few years, prices have just gone up and up, but the merchandise would probably be on par with what you're looking for...
