i think you would be better off going to kiddyland, tokyuhands, sakuraya hobby-kan (shinjuku) or hakuhinkan (ginza)

b/c you'll only (well, sorta) find electronic stores on the mainstreet

since asobit city which was like a 9 story otaku store is gone, it's kinda hard to find

otaku stuff in the area

i'm pretty sure that there are akihabara guides written for travellers though

if your friend enjoys playing videogames, consider picking up some HORI

PS2 / XBOX accessories e.g. controllers. they produce the nicest videogame accessories
