501 STF Newbie Questions

What benefits? the denim will be more rigid pre-soak, but that's just the excess starch and it weakens the fabric and has a flattering drape on the body (IMO). Also, If you buy them so that they fit raw, they will be too small once you wash them. The denim will still be rigid enough to produce distinctive fading and whatnot post-soak and you'll end up with a better-fitting, more comfortable pair of pants in the end. But... they're your jeans so feel free to disagree with my advice.

Also, as a.khan said, this is really a better question for the small questions or the 501 STF thread :)

If they don't contain a lot of starch then in my view the disadvantages in indigo bleeding out all over the jeans far outweighs the benefits. That said, the most significant benefit is that the combs on the back of the knees will be displaced upwards and might look strange if the jeans are worn significantly before they are put in water and shrink.
