Best Podcasts?

Does anyone know of any good Podcasts that are out there, besides the NPR ones, which are a given. I'm trying to find some good podcasts, mainly because sometimes I just get tired of listening to music over and over again and like to hear mindless banter at times. I gave a few different ones a shot, like the Pandora podcast, but it hasn't updates in a while. I'm currently listening to Filmspotting, a podcast that is a radio show out of Chicago and pretty much their reviews are spot on, the Creative Screenwriting Magazine Podcasts, which is nothing but interviews with screenwriters (and very interesting at times), The Bowery Boys, which is all about the History of New York City and I am going to give the iTunes Indie/alt sampler podcast a shot. Are there any decent podcasts out there or should I just go listen to the NPR ones.

For more serious podcasts...

Econtalk for economics/ politics is fantastic, the host definitely has some free market leanings, but the show is really really good. Each week is a an hour long interview with an economist, political scientist, professional, or author about an economics related topic.

Reasonable Faith - For a pro-Christian philosophy of religion podcast (if you don't know anything about contemporary philosophy, philosophy of religion has become very popular over the last 20 year. Its much more about very complicated issues of divinity, than comparing religious systems.)

Filmspotting is pretty good from what I have heard

I know you already mentioned NPR stuff being good, but might as well throw up the specifics.

NPR: Religion Podcast

NPR: It's All Politics Podcast

NPR: Story of the Day Podcast

NPR: Talk of the Day Podcast

Philosophy bites podcasts are a good selection across a very wide range of philosophical issues, personally I'd be pretty wary of a pro-christian discussion of religious philosophy, hard for it not to turn out with a slant.

Good thread. Ive never listened to a podcast but would like to start with some good ones now that I have all day to listen at work. Any rec for a good movie one(horror specific would be great). Geek Time with ralph and john is pretty good for all things geeky. Not really a podcast but should be. Easy enough to find and download.

What's everyone listening to these days?

This American Life got me back into the podcast game back in high school. Still on my rotation along with Planet Money, Comedy Bang Bang, The Moth, and Radiolab. Used to listen to Freakonomics but I think the creep of econ language into everyday life is kind of weird so I'm not as big a fan anymore. One of my favorites is Love + Radio which does some really cool stories and I guess the dark format and editing are unconventional. The one about the girl who works at Subway and has a secret dark job on the internet (no spoilers) and the balloon porn girl are great episodes.

But really I made this topic because Serial, the TAL spinoff, is incredible and not quite like any form of media I've heard/seen/consumed before. Basic gist is that it's a 12 episode series covering one real murder case from 99 in Baltimore. The journalist goes back and revisits all the facts and talks to all the people to see if this Pakistani high school kid really did murder his Korean girlfriend in a AP immigrant student-style Romeo and Juliet type homicide. It's riveting, and the reporter doesn't even know how it ends yet. I think we're still in "pre-recorded" territory, but towards the end it's going to be week-by-week. It's creepy as hell to listen to these charismatic and normal people and to know that someone is lying.

edit: fuck thought i'd searched for this, there's a topic from 2010.
