if you want to see some crazy shit...go to the CanCan in pike place market at night. Its a french-bohemian cabaret bar. Really entertaining if you have a date. Plus the staff is pretty cool. And the bartenders are very knowledgable.

Restaurant Zoe is a higher end place in Belltown with cool staff and kickass foie gras.

Just walk around in pike place market for a few hours and explore. especially go off the beaten paths.

Here's a list of all the tourist-y things I plan on doing. Which one's worth checking out and which one screams tourist trap?

- the Needle

- Seattle Library

- SAM

- Underground Tour

- BofA Tower

- Glass Museum

- Ferry over Puget Sound (don't have specifics)

- Archie McPhee's (I want bacon bandages)

- Original Starbucks (more like a quick stop)

BTW I'll be there Thursday - Monday. I know there's much more to do and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks smurf and all for the 2 cents thus far.

The Underground tour gets pretty mixed reviews, so if you're pressed for time and need to cut something, I'd cut that. The new SAM is supposed to be awesome. I haven't made it there yet, but I plan on going this weekend. The Ferry is nice, but unless you have business in Bremerton, I'd either go Seattle-Bainbridge or on the Fauntleroy-Southworth.

-Do the new SAM for sure. Its amazing.

-Also do the BoA Tower instead of the needle. Its a fraction of the price and much taller than the space needle. Plus no crowds. Be sure to check the hours of operation before you go. They arent very convenient.

-Original Starbucks isnt exciting, but its in the Market so you might as well take a look.

-Definately take a ferry somewhere. Anywhere.

-Underground tour is cool, but mostly to locals IMO.

- The library is very close to the BoA Tower so hit that up too.

-Go hang out in Pioneer Square and stroll Broadway on Capitol Hill if its nice out.

-Oh and the Ballard Locks. Do that.

None of that stuff you listed is tourist trappy, really.

hahah I really wanted to check out the Fremont Troll and head up to see Lenin, but that might be out of the way. I'll be car-less downtown.

i don't really get out of downtown/belltown/cap hill area, obviously. i hope this helps in some sort of a way for future seattle visitors.

point of interest... i would like to add lusty ladies. if you are into disgusting peep shows, that is.

downtown/belltown area shopping:

-Ian (their sale is amazing. if it's still on, they're 80% off. worth digging through)

-barneys (the smallest barney's you will ever go in)

-mario's (meh meh selection but they ave p.smith and miu miu).

-kuhlman (their main gig is tayloring, but has some great casual pieces too)

-zebra club (for cheap casuals)

-nordstroms (though their mens section is a bust)

-butch blum (i think this is the only place in seattle to score CdG)

fun weekly nights out:

monday-

war room for circle of fire (b-boy/girl night)

tuesday-

lo-fi for stop biting (artsy underground hip hop /b-boy/girl night)

havana for hotel motel (hip hop)

lava lounge for metal.

wednesday-

war room for 2080 (fine 80's numbers. music is good but the crowd is kinda whack)

thursday-

baltic room for real to real (indie hip hop/latin soul)

friday-

havana for....forgot the name of the night (hip hop and dancy tunes)

saturday-

repeat friday

sunday-

kinkora for skate visions (fine skate rock tunes all night)

if you wanna catch a good live act:

check the stranger .

usually chop suey, neumos would have a great blend of rock/electero/hip hop shows booked.

comet and el corazon are great for punk/hardcore/metal/garage bands.

big shows are held at paramount and the showbox.

dive bars to check out:

belltown (stay on 2nd, don't go to 1st)-

lava lounge

shorty's

whisky

capitol hill-

linda's

red wood

cha cha's

clever dunnes

kinkora

canterbury

'nice' bars to check out

downtown/belltown-

wasabi bistro (for american sushi)

saito (for authentic sushi)

other coast cafe (for amazing sub sandwiches)

capitol hill-

bleu bistro (rustic americano cusine. AMAZING)

oh and also, i am not sure which weekend you are rolling in, but if it's this weekened you should check out lo-fi on saturday (if you are into rare soul from the 60s and early 70s, Tamla-Motown, 60s RnB, and so forth).

more info here:

DJs use all original 45's. nice touch, to say the least.
