Keeping sweatshirts soft?

I just got a new Active pullover sweater, it's 80% cotton, 20% polyester, it has that really soft feel new sweaters have when they are new. Wondering if there are any tips when I go to wash it that will keep it as soft as possible.

Will fabric softeners do anything?

Maybe an alternative would be dry cleaning. Talk to the workers there.

(there is a forum called supershopper that discussed clothes besides denim)

Jack Spade shops carry them exclusively in the US. I don't know if there are any in Canada. It's worth phoning the NYC store and seeing if they will ship though.
