If you qualify for NY unemployment assistance, the amount is calculated based on your previous salary and length of employment. So it won't be much, but apply anyway. It won't piss anyone off and it's your right. Fight for your right!

My brother and dad both got fired around the same time, and then hired 10 months later by the same companies, so hopefully the same thing will work out for you. They were given severance packages though.

My parents have been unemployed since febuary; they were laid off at the same time. The pharmaceutical industry doesn't seem to be all too great in San Diego.

Hopefully things turn out for you, as well as for my family.

I was unemployed for the majority of my year long stay in vancouver, if you have money and can get decent unemployment assistance, then take up a course or go travelling or have fun till you need a job.

Otherwise, I can just recommend not being picky and find another job to handle the bills till you get back on your feet.

Whats gonna suck is that the gov will take from your 2011 tax return. The money will not be enough to sustain so try to fond a job asap.
