FS: Band of Outsiders Wool Gauze Tartan Blazer Sz. 2

$600.Retailed for $1500

Item Description: From the Fall 08 collection, the blazer is made out of a very interesting wool gauze material. The texture looks kind of rough and scruffy, but it’s actually soft and light to the touch. The true color is – for the background: navy. The tartan: cranberry, yellow and white. As you can see in the close-up photos (even though the photos do this jacket no justice), the tartan pattern fades in and out by design for a striking effect. There are two patch pockets. One breast pocket.Three interior pockets, one with a flap and button closure. The lining is the familiar Band of Outsiders navy/white striped number made from 100% cupro. The jacket is canvassed – not fused – and hand made at the renowned Martin Greenfield factory in Brooklyn. It has two side vents.

Reason for selling: Fell in love with this immediately and bought it last fall from Barney’s. However, I’ve always had a fit issue with it. It’s a bit fuller and longer than my other size 2 Band blazers (it’s not quite as shrunken in proportion as most Band of Outsiders blazers. It lends itself more to the side of a traditional fitting blazer) but initially I thought a little alteration in the body would smooth things over. After having recently gotten the body taken in though, I realize now it’s the shoulders that are the real culprit behind the unsatisfying fit. They’re too broad. I don’t want to mess with shoulder alterations, so I’ve finally decided to give the blazer up. As much as I’d like to, I can’t afford to keep something just because it looks great on a hangar.

Anyway, the blazer’s been worn a handful of times – more than half a dozen, less than a dozen. It’s been cared for like a jacket of this pedigree should. It’s in near perfect condition. The only flaw is that when I had the body taken in, the tartan pattern got crossed up in the back. (See the second picture. Those two lines in the center used to be parallel. If that sort of thing bothers you, you can always get it fixed by having the jacket let out again. It won’t cost more than 30-40 bucks).
