I think I'm going to do some bruscetta, toasting italian bread on the grill.

crispy cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil, import olive oil, go.

Some kind of cold noodle salad.

Mixed cheese board.

Ceviche.

Asaparagus and bacon.

Spiced potato wedges.

Good steaks. kaiser type rolls.

Chorizo. Rinswurst.

Kebabs.

Beer/wine, standard liquor and mixers. And some grown up lemonade. Actually make that CC lemon, lemons, and belvedere, girls love it and you can make it strong as hell and no one notices.

Girlfriend wants Sangria but I think the fruit is a hassle and its not boozy enough for the effort anyway, I'll let her be in charge of that. and desert.

actually come to think of it, she should learn to make deviled eggs.

ok, thats more food than I originally planned.

I'll probably delegate half the work to people who show up early.

My typical BBQ menu is this: (I BBQ at home and am severely limited by Korean grocery shopping)

-paillards of chicken breast halves, spread with fresh pesto (heavy on the garlic and cheese), rolled into roulades (I usually stick skewers through them in like sets of three roulades to keep them together), marinate in a lil olive oil and lemon juice and they cook excellently on the grill, plus smell superb.

-fresh shrimp skewers, melted butter and a little salt and pepper and that's it. Maybe offer a chunky wasabi guacamole or Tunisian pesto as an accompanying sauce, like a genovese pesto but going heavy on flat-leaf parsley in lieu of basil

-fresh sausages

-grilled pineapple

-Rosemary/parsley potatoes in olive oil, salt and pepper. Don't have red new potatoes here but that's what I'd normally use, parboiled, skewered, seasoned.

Then I usually make 2-3 epic salads, like a pasta salad, a green salad (usually a baby spinach/walnut/nashi pear/cheese do-up), and then maybe a canned corn/three-bean salad with cilantro and diced jalapenos, cherry tomatoes, red onion, with a cumin/chile powder vinaigrette

-bit of crusty bread

-People always love my quiches, so I make 2-3 of them. Sometimes with shortcrust and sometimes without. One usually in Lorraine style, the other usually something like sliced parboiled potato and kabocha, ham, blanched and squeezed spinach.

-Sometimes a rice pilaf, with popped wild rice mixed in, steamed in broth, add simple sauteed onions, herbs, almond slices. THis is just filler to make the rest of the food go a bit longer, and to offer carbs.

julz, what's your schedule looking like?

to go with the title of this thread, i would say-open.

but rly, belly dancers are too much to hire for a bbq party, no?

just get some girls tipsy and play some big pimpin and its all good.

a yummy trick is taking a chicken leg/thigh and seasoning it, put bbq sauce all over it, one pineapple slice and one green pepper slice and making a little pouch for it with foil and bbqing it. one for each person and not much work.

chicken/lamb shishkabobs always work.

potato/macaroni/green salads.

good alcohol.

good music.

water sports for sure.

drugs.

what else?

USD? damn son

cheese be expensive over here man. Plus if I put cheese in something I go all the way and mix like 3 or 4 cheeses together, and then since I got $30 of cheese in there, I can't go with cheap veggies or stuff, gotta make it a baller's delight. Always an $80 salad concept.

I always fuck up shish kebabs, always burnin them and shit, plus nothing ever cooks evenly. Luh me some grilled zucchini and summer squash in olive oil, lemon juice, and a bit of minced sage and thyme and salt and pepper. Maybe more than grilled asparagus, but I love that shit too. Grilled broccoli and cauliflower as well.

Yeah, I got 5 avocados in the fridge too. Ballin on a budget. (they're not as expensive at Costco, like $15 for 5.) Can't find fresh jalapenos here on the regular (I know they have them though) so I'm thinkin bout getting my girlfriend's mom to send us some from Kinokuniya. Always an illegal importation of fresh farm goods so I can get my condiment game up concept. Luh me some of my guacamole though.

I normally go through cycles.

Taking forever to plan some massive party, splashing out on food and alcohol, mud wrestling pits, and ponys for the petting zoo.

Then I enjoy the event itself but end up bitter when I realize later that my 10 friends just brought a sleeve of pringles between them, all the booze is gone, my girlfriend is pissed off about something stupid, and someone threw up in the bathtub.

Few weeks pass, I forget, and the cycle repeats.

I pay like between 6-11 dollars for a wedge of cheese, thats like normal for cheese not filled with fake flavoring/oil or not made in america. Dairy prices be fucked here lately. My local market charges 6 for a gallon of milk. I was at the point of making my own yogurt but it became too much work.

try rubbing the kebabs in oil and using indirect heat method to prevent the burning.

Vegs that expensive in korea? I be grilling naganegi and ramps lately.

damn, $6 for milk is pretty steep dude. About the same here though. Saw two Indian guys at Costco buying just 2 gallons of milk, must be feeling it.

Food is all super expensive in Korea, plus I only shop at the depachika for standards, I spend the extra few bucks so I can get everything at one place and the veggies are a bit better. I fill out the rest at the Halal/Int'l market and Costco and have almost everything except real tomatoes, and the really obscure stuff. (Just got a $70 EMS'ed package from my mom today, had Raf and MMM shoes and 5 cans of Chipotle Chiles en Adobo).

Nothing is particularly good though, like it would be in Japan. I create stuff that would pretty much flip any Korean's perspective of food though, especially since it's all Korean ingredients. Most people here have never had really good food.

you need one of these

http://www.amazon.com/AeroGrow-AeroGarden-Gourmet-Herb-Black/dp/B000FI4O90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1247076888&sr=8-1

alot of shit in Japan is overrated especially when it comes to vegs and fruits. Aomori apples, fukuoka strawberries, hokkaido melons, they just look consistently good anything is better than costco shit. They're not on to the ugly yet tasty heirloom shit yet. I give them props on meat and fish, they got that on lock.

yeah Japanese food beasting is out of hand, especially produce. My girlfriend is on that tip, like the Miyazaki Mango thing, it's kind of stoops. The Hokkaido potatoes and corn too.

Fuck that is expensive. In Philly, far far away from avocado growing country, we pay about $1-1.50 each normally, and occasionally, 5 for $4. That's just crazy. For $15 I'd get a 12-pack of good beer

at the store i work at, the organic avocados sell for $1.99 each which is an awesome price around here for organic.

non-organic avocados are $1.29 each or 2 for $2 which is pretty rule.
