what is this? - Levi's Big E shirt

I bought this on ebay last week and just got it delivered and I'm curious whether this is an old shirt or a reproduction. The condition is very good, if I ironed out the wrinkles it got from being mailed it would pretty much look like a new shirt. Fit is great too.

reverse of the tag, writing is upside down

snaps say GRIPPER, reverse of the snap says Scovill, weren't Scovill zipflys used on old Levi's jeans?

So, is this a new or an old shirt?

based on my limited knowledge...i'd say early to mid 70s...so that's fairly old.

cool.. I haven't seen any repros of big E shirts, but then again I haven't looked around a whole lot.

What makes me wonder a bit is the fact that the inside label is written LeVIS, how come? I've seen this on other supposedly 1970's shirts, but why change one logo and not the other?

i'm guessing that it was made around the time levi was switching from its old logo or capital E to the batwing logo...sort of a transition piece maybe...it definitely isn't a repro from LVC

still have it and no one thinks it's fake.

with 65% polyester make sure you have good deoderant.

it's possible that these were made during the transition from big E to small e and they wanted to use the leftover big E tabs before starting in on the small e...this isn't that uncommon...my employer does it all the time.

Early 70's, the capital E in Levi's on white tags was used later than on red tags, the 60's shirts had no pocket tag and had a 'saddleman' or 'short horn' neck tag.
