illustrator issue

i've obviously fucked up a setting somewhere and can't reverse it.

i can't scale/transform objects/shapes/text boxes with my cursor (black) anymore, the small white square tabs that i normally push/pull are gone, replaced by even smaller coloured tabs on each corner that i can't grab..

anyone?

while we're at it, is there an easy way to extend the ends of a group of random lines by so many points/pixels beyond one another to give a rough/sketch appearance. think rectilinear plans imported from CAD that need some sort of character..

kthnx.

Is your bounding box set to hide? (under View click Show binding box)

Maybe that's the issue

Its really easy to turn off by accident (Shift+Command+B) on a mac

if not try object>transform>re-set bounding box...What version are you running?

Never seen the coloured boxes before but it may have something to do with importing a cad file...If neither above works try shutting the program down and re-starting or else re-installing...

Just draw your own vector lines on top of the plans with the pen tool to where you want them extended and and apply one of the brush filters(chalk/charcoal/pencil) or customise your own to the line...will give that rough sketch appearance

Worked a charm - thanks, mate!

Ohh, there are literally thousands of lines in the file, it would take forever and a day to trace over them in illustrator. And accuracy might suffer. Are there any other ways? I've tried applying a slight 'roughen' effect to the drawing but still havent achieved the look I'm after. I think the line extension would help..

Anyone with ideas?

Try photoshop, usually much better with things like applying a "look" to a given image if it too complicated to do it by hand. There are thousands of free filters and such on the interwebz waiting to be used.

yeah becausing doing things the easy way is much better than doing it the right way

Just saying if dude dosn't want to trace thousands of lines there are other ways, plus photoshop and illustrator are meant to be used in conjunction with each other. Both have strengths and weaknesses and illustrator's is not really producing realistic looking aging or deterioration. You could do it be hand in photoshop aswell but if it's that complex again it would take forever.

If you need them to be vector, I don't know.

If not, rasterize that shit, throw it into Photoshop and 'grow' the lines in the dimension you want.

How do you grow the lines in PS? I kinda know my way around Illustrator but PS is another issue.

On that note, can't you grow/extend the lines past edge in Autocad?

Also, hesitant to use PS, think I would prefer to keep it vector for scaling issues.

Fuck I suck at archi presentation - lack the skillz & vision.
