no

if you have access to a kitchen youre better off buying a steak at citysuper, marinating and cooking it yourself. i would never go out for steak in hong kong total rip off

Go to citysuper get urself a top grade angus beef, make ur steak with some Dijon mustard...Oh damn.

I guess get urself a duke burger, looks pretty nice but never try it before.

I can't wait till I am in Hong Kong but gonna melt sooner or later.

i actually like the steak with pepper sauce from those hk cafes. they sell a lump of meat for 25HKD and cover it in pepper sauce. u don't get the flavour of the meat but its def the best value for quality u can find.

don't go to that steak king chain whatever u do. if u really feel like splurging for a meal I'd recommend the steak from Mandarin Oriental. The Mandarin Grill has an unrivalled selection of cuts in HK in terms of quality. expect to pay $500 per person.

I dislike the pepper sauce, I went to this TW cafe in LKF after clubbing I alway eat this mix steak (bangers, Steaks, Chop and CHicken wings) with garlic sauce with a cripsy bun fill with cream butter. HELL YEAH.

mmmh Stone grill aint too bad tho. IMO.

yeah HK style grilled pepper sauce steak on that flat iron board can be good when done right...i like mine with spaghetti

speaking of the Mandarin Oriental...stay away from the Saturday buffet at Amber (landmark mandarin) unless you are going solely for the purpose of getting smashed on unlimited champagne. The food is a joke/waste of money. Better ways to get drunk in this town and eat good while you're at it...

I reckon the cheapest way getting smashed on a sat night is Club No 9, unlimited drinks for $120 till 1am then off to other clubs. It's not packed and u can get drinks from 3 separate bars, no need to line up.

mmmmh Fade to Black any club you could suggest me to go while I am in Hong Kong??

Club 9 has been wack for a while...i dont think anyone even goes there any more. never did like that place too much, the way it is designed is a total waste of space.

i dunno dude, dont go clubbing very much these days cant help ya out. Cliq is pretty good, thats about the extent of my knowledge

just follow the crowd and pop round dragon-i, volar, drop, kee club, solas, prive. the first couple of those spots may be a little played but they're all still packing in the pretty kits and socialistas on the regular.

if you're looking to take out a bottega veneta type woman have a search for the green t house in cyberport. sister venue of the green t house and green t house living in beijing. slightly bizarre (green t infused everything) cuisine, but the decor melts in your mouth.

the probably with those places are exactly those regulars. i'm finding those chicks hard to tell apart. all hk girls are seemingly more and more the same to me. slinky top + bootcut/skinny straight jeans + gold/ silver sandally heels. probably all share teh same hair stylist too.

need some freshness injected back into hk nightlife...

Gaddi's not really good anymore.

Thing with restaurants in hk, vee_dub, is that nothing is good at mid range prices. There are really good cheap eats, and really good high end restaurants, but nothing in the middle is worth the money- food doesn't stand out, and half the time you pay for the cliched ambience. In a nutshell, mid range restaurants are not worht making an occasion out of.

Second problem is that 'french food' is subjective- how french do you want it? Traditional bistros fail in general in hk, but there's alot of french inspired cuisine- my personal favourite is Gough 40 (on Gough street), though it's not really THAT french (but good food, and great ambience- i recommended it to my brother for valentine's day and he enjoyed it alot).

Last time I checked (about 1 year ago), Harlan's at IFC was still serving up good food at moderatish prices. I heard that chef Harlan is now under pursuit for spending company money on a lux car (also the foods gone shitty). Thats certainly french, and the food is very rich in flavour (creamy buttery and heavy- truly french i guess) but I'd recommend Gough 40 over it.

If you're willing to pay for an experience, I'd recommend Pierre or Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

Is there a particular reason why you want to go to a french restaurant? Hong Kong isn't exactly teaming with awesome french restaurants.

And I particularly agree with Swych that it is very difficult to find mid-range eateries that are spectacular / yells value for money in Hong Kong. I think it's because there are so many good eats for a lot cheaper.
