Decent selvedge at Club Monaco

Yes, I know that sounds crazy! And my apologies if someone else already posted this.

But, I am one happy dude right nowicon_smile.gif. Yesterday, I went to Club Monaco on 5th Ave & 20th street in NYC - mostly to check out their markdown items. One one wall they had a "limited edition" jean for $119.00. It's made in Hong Kong of Japanese selvedge denim and really looks dope. The denim is unwashed, but still soft enough to wear comfortably, and the selvedge is dry with a red stitch detail. My favorite aspect is the fit - I've tried on many unwashed jeans before that literally fit like hammer pants. These are slim without being too tight and hang really well. If you live by a Club Monaco, then definitely check them out.

I'll try to post some pics later tonight.

yeah, i've noticed in the past year or two, a lot of brands have come out with jeans with the "selvage-look" seam...

didn't notice any selvage last time i was at CM... but wasn't looking that hard either.

No Shirt. No Shoes. No Dice.

Okay, I went by the downtown SF Club Monaco at lunchtime, and it's true, they are selvage. The label says dry selvage, but I am not convinced they've never been washed. They do have a slight stiffness to them, and they also have been abraded a bit on the thighs and knees, not too much but enough to look slightly worn. The denim is probably 9-11oz., I am not an expert so I will just say relatively lightweight.

Worst thing about them to me was some "hard" creases where the hige would develop, looking as if they had been ironed but I am not sure these creases would ever come out. Is there a proper term for this? I had some Gap 1969 jeans with the same effect and it looks a little fake to me.

Anyway, though, they are true selvage jeans for $119, it's not bad at all!

Here's a photo. Stripe goes all the way up.

There was some strange creasing around the crotch area - I think designed to make it a little more comfortable to break in. Some quick inside-out ironing took care of that!

I have to say - I'm really happy with these jeans. They have a good straight fit and aren't all high-waisted and ridiculously-logo'd like Evisu. For the price, I don't think that they can be beat.

Cheers,

Flav
