Chinese Docs - Any Verdict?

It dawned on me that I am in dire need of some new boots, and I got the idea to try some Doc Martens like I had back in the 90s (1460s to be exact).

I am by no means a follower of fashion forums or news, but after a little research I learned that in 2003 production of DM was moved to China, and many Doc loyalists (and superfuture members) cried "Dr. Martens is Dead."

Common sense would tell me to just forget about them and look for another brand but memories of my thrashed up 1460s and my love for the design of that boot have gotten the better of me.

My question: Has anyone actually given Chinese-made Dr. Martens a try? Any real-life critiquing other than seeing a Made in China tag and scoffing in disgust?

I have a pair of black Made in England 1460's, but the back tabs are ripped off by now i think. The soles are good and the leather is good as well, size 8 i think if you are interested.

Thanks dismal but I'm actually UK 10 / US 11

So apparently there is a "Made in England" collection where they are slowly making some shoes back in England. The only colors for 1460s in this Made in England collection are Green, Blue and Red - not exactly the neutral casual boot I was aiming for.

To be specific, the product that has got me considering coughing up $100+ and testing out the Chinese craftsmanship are these suckas: http://www.dmusastore.com/p-1986-1460-tan.aspx

Perhaps someone could direct me to a higher quality boot that is similar to this?

(if a superfuture novice asking about a boot that practically nobody has worn in almost 10 years is violating the harmony of these forums, please let me know and I'll cease and desist this thread)

Those Red Wings they sell on zappos seem to be an alright alternative, though I prefer the way old MIE 1460's get that flattened low-profile toe and softened leveled sole look with age, and there aren't many subsitutes for that other than the genuine article.
