IS PAYPAL REALLY SAFE??????

i gotta say, the avatars on this site have become half the fun. is that the original Road Rash, Mbrand?

anyway, paypal has been fine for me, for literally over 500 transactions on eBay etc., never once a problem.

nothing is perfect, and there will be the inevitable glitch, but the measure of a company's confidence in their services (or product) is how willing to help customer service is.

paypal's buyer protection is a joke. even when you have a valid case of non-shipment, they can still give you the finger and there's nothing you can do about it. it's happened to me at least on 3 occasions. in anycase, since paypal is owned by ebay, you have no choice but to go with them for the sake of convenience. my only advice is to pay with a credit card, i.e. visa, amex or mastercard so you have another layer of protection.

personally, i'm probably going to institute a law suit against two assholes that took my money and never sent the items (just under $2000 worth of computers). it's totally not worth your while to do this with a lawyer, but since i'm in law school...this will make for some fun practice. i bet there will be a class action law suit against paypal in the near future about their "Buyer Protection Policy"...come join the fun.

wow, out that much dough? if you need help, i have 2 yrs civil litigation experience and not that you need the help, but would assist in drafting the complaint etc.

it's still small claims court though, where are you located?

OT, but that's Hang-On.

Paypal is safe compared to any other service. It's safer than sending a money order. But darknworn is right about the buyer protection thing. Paypal isn't as experienced (or doesn't care) in dealing with fraud as FDIC insured banks. It's a heavily used money transfer service that still needs improvement.

Paypal works if you deal with a reputable and honest seller/buyer. Other than that they don't offer much protection for you unless you follow their rules to the tee. One thing to note is you should ALWAYS ship to CONFIRMED addresses in Paypal!! The buyer can screw you over by saying it never arrived if he's unconfirmed. Paypal customer service sucks too btw but thank god I've never had to use it.
