Staying Warm on the East Coast

This is more of a general interest question than fashion or shopping related, although I am going to New York in a month and will undoubtedly be freezing my balls off there, so this might help. How did you kids keep warm over there? A shirt, sweater and coat doesn't seem to cut it. More the point, do y'all where thermals?

Pretty much if you're gonna be in NYC (which is what I assume), you gonna at least want to wear a heavy winter jacket. No need to really layer, unless there's snow in the forecast. Your best bet would be to layer, but not too much. A thermal underneath a t-shirt would be acceptable, hell even the thermal by itself would be fine. Also if you going to be going in and out of stores a lot, you might not want to layer too much, most of the time stores have their heat up pretty high, so you might want to just keep the do a pea coat, scarf, hat, and gloves, this way you don't over dress yourself and you have less to deal with.

I would say a thermal and another layer or two should be fine for normal, everyday walking around. If you're going to be outside for a while though, I'd toss on a winter coat or a couple more layers. It's pretty damn cold already up here. Yeah, going in/out of stores can be hard to do when you're layered out, with their heat up and if you need to try shit on you're in for a lot of changing time. WeirdNJFan's got the idea pretty much nailed down, thick-ish coat, and a layer or two under it should be fine, toss on some accessories too if it's still a little chilly.

Nowhere like NYC at this time of year.
