I'm looking for similar stores where you can get emerging designers gear (mostly streetwear). I'm totally unfamiliar w/the UK as I've never been. A friend of mine is going to scout for me and I would like to give him some kind of direction. I guess London will be a start. Anywhere where "trendsetters" (i hate that word) would go to get the newest gear (like Soho, LES, Williamsburg).

Hope that helps.

As previously mentioned Bond will do a lot of skate/street stuff. They are behind Carnaby street. I think the lovely supermaps section will help.

I'd also try:

Liberty - menswear buying is excellent. The denim and casual fashion is pretty much one room, a bit like a boutique.

Selfridges is priding itself on buying cutting edge small collections. Too many £70 white t-shirts for my liking but hey, its got the lot.

Dover Street Market (home of comme des garcons).

Foot Patrol (www.footpatrol.com)

Browns (www.brownsfashion.com)

Look out for the Seven Dials area in Covent Garden, loads there.

Oki-ni is a sort of boutique (www.oki-ni.com).

Little out of the west end but check Bread & Honey (www.breadnhoney.com)

So many, still thinking...

Ah those trendsetters. Elusive folk they are...

Try:

Seven dials area in covent garden

Liberty menswear (just like a nice sized boutique)

Selfridges

Dover Street Market

Browns

Bond (as mentioned and the other local areas)

Urban outfitters here is better than US

Topman flagship on Oxford Circus - lots of good stuff for little cash

Outside of town try Bread and Honey (confusingly breadnhoney.com)

oki-ni

Duffer of St George in Shoreditch (has Atelier la Durance I'm told)

A good start I hope. Plenty more where they came from.

Enjoy.

Brown's is good. I have heard good things about Ilk however have never actually made it. Like they said above Urban Outfitters in UK is a totally different store than here in the US. There is a store around the corner from Top Shop in Oxford Circus that had a very rock and roll feel with some good stuff. Can't think of the name of it. Maybe someone else can help out.

I think the kind of stores you are talking about are mostly around the Carnaby Street area of London. Newburgh street and Marshall Street, both of which are just off Carnaby Street, are home to stores like Concrete, House 33, Pinnael Eye amoung others, which are definitely geared more towards 'new' labels. Then of course you have Hideout, which is also close by in Upper James Street and a few doors along from Bathing Ape, which stocks most of the currently well known Japanese labels i.e. Goodenough, W)Taps, Neighborhood etc.
