leave rincon immediately and head to old san juan-- take in the architecture that hasnt changed for centuries, [visit el moro- old spanish fortress overlooking the atlantic, its breathtaking], if there are street vendors around selling ices, get the parcha. [passionfruit] there are several world-class casinos here too if you want to get your gamble on.

if you drive, rent a car for a day and get directions to el yunque. this is a rainforest in pr that is hilariously beautiful. also, there is an unmapped military base hidden inside of it, and if you wander beyond the chain link fences that you find deep in the forest, youre sure to be disappeared like many others before you.

i wish my grand-uncle still owned his little shack restaurant on the beach of catano, directly across the water from san juan. you couldve taken the ferry across, peeped the dolphins in the water, wandered over to his place and gotten fat on really good food.

if youre taking public transport, bear in mind that buses stop running at midnight and

the train system only services a few central metropolitan areas. cabs are pretty pricy because they know you have no other way of getting to where youre going.

san juan can easily fill two days of time, el yunque is a must-do... local legend says that the chupacabra is a military experiment that escaped from there. time to go hunting!

not sure what kind of travel you are in to but if you're into "tourist attractions" then go to old san juan. rincon is top notch surfing. hopefully that's what you'll be doing for a week. if you want to explore some more, make a trip up to isabella or marhau in the northeastern corner of the island. if you want to see some bioluminesence go to vieques or mayaguez. el yunque is super dope. there's a trail on the "back side" of the mountain that goes up to a series of waterfalls. the tallest one has a natural water slide "carved" in to the rocks that you can slide down and pops you off in to the waterfall. super-refreshing. obviously, most of these side trips will require your own transportation. if you really want to live the life, hop on a cloud-skipper and go to Culebra or Culebrita. untouched, green, and absolutely beautiful. but, rincon is awesome all by itself. check out the beach around "domes." kickass surf spot, and well-known. drink some "pirates" - pronounced pee-rah-tay - it's a coconut with 7 types of rum mixed in with the milk and some cinnnamon spinkled on top. also, keep in mind that "real" puerto ricans drink Don Q Rum. no bacardi junk.

if you do decide to go to San Juan go to Pura Vida. it's a little sandwich/smoothie shop run by a bunch of surfers. incredibly fresh and clean.

Ishalproceed! For your first post on SuFu that was damn useful.

Way better than "how do i get this sauce off my Nudiez?"

I'm leaving for Rincon in ten hours, i'm going to try and check out everything you and Jose recommended. :)
