Replacing it yourself is pretty damn easy, I've done it on several different models. I know it looks intimidating, but it takes about 30 seconds once you get the case open. Don't pay someone else to do it for you, and don't spend money for a new one if you dont need to. Grow a pair and DIY. I buy my batteries from here:

My girl just bought a new Nano and the store was offering a warranty where if the battery does not hold a 50% charge within 2 years of purchase they will replace the whole Ipod. I'm about to get myself a new 30Gig as well, and I usually never go for warranties as I’ve learned this is where electronics retailers make a lot of their $ (ie. they don’t have to pay out as the warranties are not claimed). However, seeing as how Ipods are notorious for battery probs do you guys think this is worth it? The cost is around 40USD on top of the reg price. Curious as to what ppl think.

Cheers!

N.

I think it's somewhat biased though, but it has relevant information. A ton of Apple/ipod forums have given me some insight on how to properly charge the battery so it doesn't die (ie, only charge when its around 10% battery life, never let batteries drain all the way, never leave the ipod plugged in while playing, etc), and I've followed their guidelines and have no troubles with a 2 year old nano.

But things may vary from model to model. Also, by the time two years comes around I'm sure there will be new ipods on the market that you'll have your eyes on... I know its about time for me to pick up a new one. Been looking at the iTouch since it came out.

I'd say no to warranty.
