denim repair ... patches ... bonding ... techniques ... ?

yo.

so i blew out a pair of prps i've been wearing for a while ... it was worn in pretty well ... but as time went on ... and barb wire caught the worn in bit ... it basicly blew out a fairly large hole in the upper knee portion of my jeans ...

so my question comes in two parts ...

first ... do it yourself bits ...

i get the sewing bits ... but there's still just an obvious fray around the patch which i've stitched onto the jean ... i chalk that up to not cleaning the hole well enough ... i've heard of bonding agents that exist to somehow ... smooth the denim together ... to the point in where it can be very subtle ...

anywas ... what are some techniques for making patch jobs subtle ? ... and with that ... some techniques that would be better for someone without a sewing machine ?

second ...

are there any reccommendations for spots to hit up in the san francisco area for these jobs to be done if i can't manage it myself ?

thanks folks.
