pure blue japan xx-008 sizing

Got my xx-008s today, anyone else get theirs yet?

I got a size 28 because my xx-007 are a size 29 and fit quite well post-soak but are now getting pretty loose in the waist with wear.

However, the xx-008 came extremely small.. accordintg to BiG the pre-soak waist should have been 31.5, but the waist on mine measures about 28 and they havent been soaked yet (unless BiG gave them the one-wash service, but they look and feel to be raw and the inseam is 36).

Im not sure what i should do.. i was planning on having to soak them, but as it is i can barely get them buttoned up. Im sure if i wear them they will stretch to be comfortable, but i'd never be able to wash or soak them or else they'd end up way to small.

I'm kinda disappointed because BiG measurements were misleading and they said care was taken to ensure the xx-008 would fit like the xx-005 after washing (factoring in the different shrinkages for the different denims).

But i do like the denim and they look really nice. pbj makes good stuff.

Anyway, anyone else who got the 008 have this same issue? What do you plan to do about it?

So, I pulled mine out of the bag (size 36), stripped the tags off and threw them in a hot washer. After how loose the XX-007s were in a 36 and all the commentary on BIG, I didn't even think about it. My 007s right now have about 1.5" of slack in the waist, easy pocket access and if they weren't tight in the lower thighs right above the knees would be too loose. The 008s are tight but easily buttonable in the waist, I can't really get into the pockets, and the thighs just above the knees are taut. Unless these have an ungodly amount of stretch, they're running smaller.

The Pure Blue blue tag on the coin pocket is kind of a questionable detail in my mind.

Errr, nevermind. Looked at BIG's site, and for whatever reason, the XX-007s had 1/4" more fabric at the knees and 1/2" more fabric at the upper thighs in size 36 specifically. That's my difference right there. I think you must have gotten a mislabeled pair. If they had been washed, they would be quite soft.

These do feel slightly tighter at the waist, but willing to believe that I'm just forgetting how much the 007s stretched after washing.

Any updates on the 008 sizing? Can those charts on BiG's site really be correct? That sizing seems WAY off from the 005s--and if I'm not mistaken, they were supposed to have the same cut.

More importantly, has anyone shown fit pics yet? I didn't find any...

The post-soak measurements are accurate for the 36s. They shrink a ton.

Jwied, thanks for the pics. Unfortunately my frame is nothing like yours, and I could never imagine wearing my jeans as tight as yours are in the photos--and that's not a knock on you, it works for you.

That being said, theetruscan, any way you'd be willing to help out the team by sharing some fit pics for those of us with 34-36 in waists and cyclists legs? The love will come back around my friend. Thanks.

I'm in my knickers today (Rapha FTW!), and rode like 30 miles to boot, but tomorrow my fat ass will take some pics of the xx-007s and xx-008s. The 008s are definitely slimmer (as noted in the post-wash measurements on BiG),

In case the (eventual) picture doesn't make it clear though, the denim isn't very exciting yet, it's a smooth, slightly hairy royal blue (versus slubby, non-hair, navy blue for the 007s) thin denim. The character is theoretically going to develop after wear. I tend to put about 30-50 miles a week on the xx-008s, and with the heat what it has been in Nashville, I'm wearing them almost non-stop, so hopefully I'll have some wear by october or november.

they are pretty tight right now, but still look alright i think. Its better to start a little too tight than to have have them fit perfect the first time you put them on but then look oversized once they are all stretched out

I've been wanting these but it seems like no one else has a pair / posted comments on them.

A few key questions,

How do these fade ?

How much do they stretch ?

Downsize or upsize ?

Like the 006s - too new to have many faded examples.

A bit of stretch in the waist (1" ish), none in the thighs or legs.

Fit just like the XX-005s (exactly), size how you would for those.

Wearing mine now, approaching a month's wear. Have some fading, but not enough to capture with a camera. Look at Pure Blue Japan's website for faded XX-006s.

008's ran smaller then the 007's & 005's....I would suggest sizing one size up.

not sure about that size... but when I was in there over the weekend I was told the 008's ran a bit smaller then originally thought. I'm a size 30 and tried on a 30 and it was painted on my legs. I then tried a 31 and it was still pretty tight... (both were one wash by BIG)

My experience is that the 008s came in small--even smaller than the information posted on BIG's site (and I'm even talking about the updated information). I've only worn my one-wash 008s a couple of times. The sz 36s that I ordered arrived with a 34" waist (using BIG's measurement techniques). Luckily, I'm more of a true 35 in waist, and they've already stretched a bit--but only in the waist (as mentioned) and a bit in the seat. I posted pics in the how jeans fit thread a few weeks back. There was some talk that maybe this sizing problem was confined to size 36 models, but I'm not sure that's ever been confirmed by information here on this site.

Im a 35 waist and ordered the PBJ-008's in size 34 (thinking they would be like my 005's). Not so. When they arrived they measured a 32. I was able to button them up but they looked like they were painted on me. Gordon said the 34 I got was a one-wash from PBJ. Sent back and got a size 36. Like gc's, the size 36 measured 34 in the waist. So yeah, the 008's do run one size small. But the color on these things are amazing, and well worth the trouble. Hope this helps.

So, I've got approaching 30 days wear on my XX-008s, which means they've stretched back out. I thought I'd measure them. Measured repeatedly, only variation was thigh, which depending on how the jeans lay, went 12.5-13, so I averaged.

These jeans have probably been ridden 100 or so miles on a bike, and so on and so forth, they're about as stretched out as they seem willing to get. No amount of biking is loosening the lower thigh/knee area.

When the jeans were straight out of the wash (got them raw, hot washed, froze, hot dried) the waist was at least 1.5" tighter than this, possibly a full 2 inches tighter. There's a lot of stretch in the waistband.

Size 36.

Waist 36.5" (shit you not, 18.25 flat).

FrontRise: 10.5

BackRise: 15.75

Thigh: 12.75

Knee: 9.25

Hem: 9.25

i can't even button my 008's that i got in the mail today, and they are still raw. is there any chance they will end up fitting me post soak after they stretch? because i like the fit in the legs, and i think i will really like the leg tightness after they soak...

They might but I doubt it. Like I said earlier, they run one size small. So you should buy one size up. If your a 32 buy a 34, etc. Im a size 35 and had Gordon send me out a 34 raw and that just barley fit. If I soaked them I am sure they would have gone down to a 32. The sizing on the 008's is a bit weird.

well, i got them buttoned now and stretched the waist a bit to the point where they fit how i like pre-soak. they now fit OK in the waist, but the legs definitely need to shrink to get tighter for my taste. i am thinking i will hot soak them with something wedged in the waist to prevent it from shrinking in that area and then just suffer for a week or so. i am hopeful that since i was able to get the waist where i want it now that it will be able to stretch back to this point even if it shrinks a little in the soak. worst case scenario i will just buy a waist stretcher i guess, because i have pretty high hopes to the fit of these everywhere else. i should be ok, right?

Has anyone done before/after shrinkage measurements? I unfortunately have only after wash and wear measurements, not having thought to measure them raw, or before I tossed them on.

one-wash, size 34. i did not measure my 36 OXS, nor did I get the measurements when raw.

size 34 (O/W)

Waist: 32." I know, I double checked just to make sure; but this is the correct

measurement.

Inseam: 35."

Leg Opening: 9."

Knee: 8 3/4."

Upper Thigh: 12."

Back Rise: Just over 13."

Front Rise: Just over 10."

-these are exact measurments-

-from e-mail with Gordon
