file attachment html code?

I'm a noob at web design, does anyone know the script or html code to put file links on a website so a user can access the file from their won microscoft program or pdf program and such?

If you put a pdf file on your site, and a link to it, it will be opened in Acrobat, right? (unless their preferences are set to open elsewhere)

You don't need any extra code, any file will be opened with whatever they prefer
