I remember reading an interview with RZA where he said he had a DAT player in his ride so as soon as they finished a track they could ride around and bump it to see what it sounded like. I always wished albums were mastered for different listening environments, like car, headphone, stereo, club. That way you'd get the best sound for where you're at.

But ODB's first solo is probably the most consistent Wu album in the fact that every beat is beyond good. As for ODB, I felt he had his moments. I guess it's possible I only liked him was when he was high.
