Blown out shit.

So i use the radio in my car now because my CD changer went tits up, and Crazy by Gnarls Barkley came on. I immediately changed the station, and then I got a little sad, because I remember how amazed I was when that song first dropped. It just got so blown out that it started to suck. Started me thinking about stuff that became overrated so quickly that we forget about its initial glory (or basically, got so overrated they're now underrated).

First one's that come to mind:

Hey Ya, by Outkast

Nike SBs (innovative, hated on based on popularity)

H&M (every asshole and there brother shops there, but its so cheap and potentially awesome)

The 80s

The 70s

Kanye West

Tarantino Movies

thoughts?

So this is like the 'backlash' and 'backlash to the backlash' stuff from NY Mag

this is potentially all wrong.

anticipation- (I have no idea)

saturation point- mashups, electro

backlash- Emo, screamo, gimmicky metalcore, 80's

backlash to the backlash- techno, jazz

I think that this is a problem for a lot of us, with a lot more than we know, how many relationships, resturants, bands, movies have let you down after fully openly promoting and loving them? for me, a lot.

but to share my thoughts and not just shit out some nonsense, i think that i would say,

radio head and star trek TNG... both things i loved back when, and now kinda look on in a shame filled kinda longing way... (for the times that i liked them i guess.)

Johnny Depp imo...He used to be my favourite actor for years just because he wasn't like most other male actors...I loved the tim burton movies and how he was always kind of 'strange'...

But now (at least here in germany) everyone, every little girly says that he's their favourite actor just because of fucking pirates of the caribbean...Most of those people have only seen like two or three movies with him !

I personally like the recent emo/metalcore wave. Our culture moves so fast now that albums that were hot shit for 16 year old girls and boys in 2005 are now a lost aesthetic. Shit is hot fire. Damn straight I've got that Hawthorne Heights on REWWWIIIIIND.

The phrase "Premium denim". Not in the context it's used on sufu but the fact that everyone has to have a pair of True Religions or Citizens or Sevens these days. Like if thats your style great but I feel that's something thats blown out and loosely thrown around.

This however, is THE blow out

I think that's kind of the point though.

It's like the Ikea of the clothing world bringing designer styles to the everyday shopper rather than an exclusive brand.

salvia dinorum - now that theyre drugtesting at my school, everybody treats it as "the new weed".

american apparel - although their quality did drop a little, dont care though.

nudies - last year around this time of the year i discovered nudies and i thought they were sick and it really hurt thinking about blowing 180 dls on an "experiment" but then every bro who shops at their local "premium denim" boutique has them (rrdg) and since the backpocket is so ubiquitous, its just like meh.

dior homme - self explanatory, kinda.

residente calle 13 - i used to listen to this shit way early, and then Atrevete-Te got all popular and it went from Mun2 to MTV3 to VHUno to Univision to MTV2 to american MTV. the worst was when people asked me why i didnt listen to him and i, most of the time, wanted to answer with an obvious "because your bitch ass is beasting all over it"

Read the book the tipping point, for more info about this phenomenon, some things are bound to reach a small subculture, and explode exponentially with time

things that are blown out to me

most American Streetwear

Nike SBs

Nudie Jeans

Mainstream Hip-Hop (sadly)

Counter-Strike

World of Warcraft (never played it, but its sickingly to hear how many people do)

Salvia > Weed

and don't knock WoW until you've tried it...there's a reason people call it WarCrack
