Hotel reccomendations for NY?

I'm trying to plan a trip to NY in a few months,and want to avoid spending $300ish for a hotel. I'd rather have more money to shop with. I did some research and found this place park79.com. I was wondering if anyone knows the area,is it decent?i did a public transit mapquest type thing and i guess its 40minutes away from soho,which isnt bad.Does anyone have other recmomdations that are affordable?

hey good find...the area is nice. your close to the park and museums.and forget mapquest...it'll take you much less than 40min to get to soho. subway is prob quickest

Try the Gershwin on 28th street. That place is actually really nice and reasonable, but it books up really quickly.

It's also right next to the Sex Museum, which while fun to see was a bit of a letdown.
