Overrated movies that bother you due to their popularity

trainspotting was the only good movie that boyle made. i can't believe people like slumdog that much. it's so prefabricated, seems like a disney movie. it's made following his favorite style, 90s music video, plastic and banal with overused camera work. like the last hot mtv video (when they still had videos). people are sheep.

agree completely on all points. hated every minute of it. corny as shit. and it sucks because the people you tell this to that love that movie always think they're better than you for liking this "indie" foreign movie, and think you hate it only because you're too uncultured and only like shitty hollywood action movies or something

Gran Torino - Eastwood's character is comically racist, which makes the movie bearble, but the story is tired and contrived, and the acting is C-list, straight-to-dvd quality at best.

American Gangster - didnt even finish it. terribly uninteresting.

The Departed - it wasnt bad. it was just meh. i dont see what all the hype was about.

don't make me laugh, the only good movie he's made?

Shallow Grave is great, as is the often overlooked Millions. I get what you'e trying to say, but to accuse everyone who doesn't agree of being Sheep is just so sufu of you.

Shallow Grave was ok but Millions was far from greatness. I don't care if people agree or not, it's just the blind approval of a bad movie that pisses me off.

Slumdog wasn't as good for me as I wanted. Maybe because I watched it on my computer (DVDrip). I reckon the book Q&A would be much better. The movie just seemed all over the place, but it can be very involving at times. I wish there would be more depth to it. Some parts of the story were missing and I wasn't really pleased with the plot.

Juno should make the list, if it hasn't been mentioned.

PTA is one of the great auteurs of this generation.

I saw American Gangster once, the first half was watchable but it started lagging and just dropped off. Is it me or has Ridley Scott been miss for a while.

The Departed was good, just kind of oddly paced. Weird considering that it's 150+ minutes, I've seen it about thrice and it feels shorter than some movies much shorter in actual duration. Actually it flies by even quicker than Infernal Affairs.

i rewatched the departed and i htink its possibly the worst editing ive ever seen in a good film. marty musta been dying to shave some minutes off because the cuts are so haphazard and the transions are incredibly jarring. maybe they were on a deadline to get in before the sympathy oscar evaporated before his eyes.

i dont know if it irked me the first time i saw it, but this time its all i noticed outside of jack basically being as predictable as fuck. i think im reversing my opinion on this film. it basically boils down to leos good performance and marks terrible, but still awesome show-stealing. everythign else i could take or leave.

i watched casino a couple days after the departed, and im now content with think scorses is dead to me form now on. its not tha tlong between these two films but the fall from grace is as obvious as AIDS leisons.

i liked Jack in it, he played the bad guy better than Eric Tsang (first Jack performance I've liked since About Schmidt, but I guess neither is a far departure from cruise control Jack...70s Jack is gone on some speedboat doing blow off some silicone tits)

but yes, your commentary about the editing being jarring was spot on, i couldn't put my finger on it but you summed it up well. The HK version flowed better and it was like 30 minutes shorter.

oh god, you guys watch movies? ugh, I only look at antique flipbooks, en francais. movies are like, sooooo played out. I find flipbooks to have a better, you know, visual aesthetic that movies just can't capture, which is why I collect flipbooks and sometimes I just totally let myself get immersed in their vision of reality. try doing that with one of your "movies". pshhhhh
