old schoolers:

humate

jam & spoon

nalin & kane

energy 52

jose padilla

new order (sort of)

paul oakenfold (credit where it's due)

(relatively) new schoolers:

solar stone - some of my all time favorites are from them

chicane - hallmark of late 90s along with random energy 52 remixes. every day of august i'm on that autumn tactics tip.

three drives - Greece 2000, nuff said

rank 1 - airwave is so obnoxious that it's awesome

faithless - i can't lie, i loved the shit.

http://www.ibiza-spotlight.com/night/history_music_i.htm#classics this site has some of the bigger songs on it but not really about music influenced by the island but more music that was big on the island.

ps i can't wait until onemancult comes and tells me everything i thought i knew is false.

Yeah I like, like- 64.6% of anjunabeat's roster and even that stuff I feel like I need to listen to in a dark closet. I like the stuff that makes me feel like I have jetlag, missing my beautiful wife and my stainless steel appliances.

I used to be really into progressive house, still into sasha and g&d, super models from paris- I could listen to keep on for days.

Trance isn't a fucking acquired taste, most people that are into edm are into NRG-trance shit.

Snare roll after fucking snare roll after fucking snare rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

wait...yet you hate chicane? i don't get it...

nrg isn't trance...it's descended from italo. also when i say trance i don't mean cheesy shit like cascada.

I have Far From The Maddening Crowds and I hate it.

you stoops...that's a classic. you're probably the only person i've met who doesn't like "offshore." invest in behind the sun ... his followup is better.

I always thought trance was HUGELY popular, in large part because it's so accessible. Edumacate me, westie.

.

well it depends on which musician...there's the wheat and chaffe, just like house. house is generally considered more accessible, but more shit comes out of trance.

btw keagan, if you really hate it that much, send it my way.

i feel like balearic beat is one of those things i'd need to be in the moment to appreciate... i don't see mediterranean sunsets when i throw on solarstone, it kind

of ends up melting into the background for me. my approach to dance music shifts more towards the darker, weirder, harder edged sounds. i can appreciate all of the classic ibiza songs for what they mean historically and all, but something about "Beachball" just doesn't gel with my worldview.

as far as happy hardcore and pals; makina annoys me, early gabba and recent japanese gabba is pleasurable, and happy hardcore is entirely too subjective of a genre for me to discuss coherently.

hahaha,

i havent had the opportunity to pay a visit, no- that's probably the major reason why

the music doesnt do anything for me. i know for a fact it'd be a different story, like i said, if i were in that time/place zone where everything just clicks together.

i must confess that lately EBM and industrial dance is getting me hard.

Front 242 are so fucking good.
