Starch-related question

Hi guys,

I have searched a bit and couldn't find what I was seeking, so now I ask. Please forgive me if my question may seem lame to you - I hope it won't :)

Anyway, I made some starch resolution from potato starch (for food) and boiling water. I tried it on some clothes and nothing really worked, so I made it a lot harder. Then I put it on my black Edwin jeans and damn, it worked .. they became stiff as I wanted.

The problem is that I can clealy see where I have been starching them. It looks as if i've actually bleached them where the starch have been used, even though I have not. Why is this? I tried to wash them at 30 degress (celcius) which is very cold, hang them dry and so on - but the stains are still there. The jeans are not sticky in any way and they don't feel to stiff anymore, but the stains are still there.

Any idea why? - and what I can do?

Thanks in advance,

making your own starch? WTF, it costs 1.99 for a can. I think that was a mistake. if you washed it and it still looks like its bleached, then it probably really is bleached.

pretty much all commercial starches use Corn Starch as the main ingredient, i guess potato starch could work the same way

the white powder suggests you made it too strong of a solution so it just kind of dried as a film on the surface

the only way to get rid of this from experience is just machine washing.. but assuming you dont want to machine wash, just try beating it out by hand

good luck..
