This is an excellent and difficult question.

Much as I love Ramen, there's some times I just inexplicably need the fat glutinous goodness of Soba when I sit down and see it on the menu.

I enjoy my soba cold with the dipping sauce, so it's quite easy to like both equally since I have my ramen in hot soup. They're both awesome.

Soba are buckwheat noodles I believe. About spaghetti sized.

I do love udon though.

Never had what would be considered really good Raman I'm sure, but a little Japaneses cafe near me provides me with lunch on a regular basis. There is a guy in town that make Soba but so far I haven't had anything on the menu I really like.
