yeah, as DJs the DFA crew is definitely more than competent and usually a pleasure to party with... as remixers, I'd say that they're capable of making a good song a little better, but I've rarely heard them turn a shit song into a good song...

Anyone care to say why, rather than merely stating their opinion?

I just got it and haven't had time to listen. But Murphy is really pissing me off, especially the Breihan thing in the Voice. What an fat arrogant fucking prick. I hope he does get into UFC so I can watch someone stomp on his fat fucking head.

I do like a bunch of DFA stuff tho, and I don't hate LCD.

i loves me some Black Dice and Pixeltan.

i'd say that my personal reason for not liking this album is that the lyrics are as insipid as ever, despite the rumors that this time he actually sat down and wrote them instead of ad libbing like he did on the first album. the album is sonically great, really warm and classic-sounding, but the songwriting falls a little flat for me. the ode to new york city is about as trite as dance punk with a heart can get, and all the other tracks, while sounding good, just seem to be lacking that vague thing that separates a half-assed song from a knockout.

First three tracks are gold, the record just goes downhill from there, finally crashing into a brick fucking wall with "New York I Love You" which is a terrible song.

Some great remixes are coming out of this though. North american scum- onastic dub, anyone?

i agree. it seems the same reasons his songs were widely liked pre first lp (i'm thinking of "Losing My Edge, and "Yeah" specifically), are the reasons i don't care for them now. i mean, i get that some normal looking/non-rock star dude talking over well-constructed dance punk WAS something different four years ago, but what has changed really (even if he actually "wrote songs" this time)? The first time i listened to the new record, after it was over, i realized i couldn't remember one moment during the album that really stood out, not a good sign.

not saying it was horrible, not at all. there are much worse things out there, but i bought the panda bear album at the same time, and i'll be listening to that instead.
