Sun tanning your jeans

What effect does leaving your jeans to dry in the sun have on the denim? People warn against it, but i don't know what it does. It might leave a nice color.

I always leave my jeans outside in the sun to dry after washing. I think it's better than putting it in the dryer. Natural is best. Jeans are meant to be worn everywhere are are meant for heavy duty workwear including outside. I wear them out all the time!

One of the japanese denim gurus from Samurai i believe or maybe it's just from a store said that drying them outside in the shade would make sure that the sun doesn't bleach them at all. I doubt the sun will have too much effect though.

indigo is known for it's colorfastness. It's resistant to fading from washing and light. Black jeans on the other hand may get sun bleached. Anyone try it w/ blacks?

BTW - sunlight will bleach indigo. Although as natural dyes go (synthetic indigo being identical chemically to natural indigo), it's well known for it's colour fastness. If you see old garments, tapestries, carpets etc that have been dyed using all natural dyestuffs - it's usually the indigo that's kept it's colour long after the others have faded away.

i noticed my sammies have been getting this really awesome contrast when viewed in sunlight. dont know if thats just how my jeans been fading or if its just getting dirty or if the sun is changing the look of it.
