LEVIS 501xx NOT LVC Whats the difference?

LVC reproduces certain years and use either red line or green/blue line denim depending on the year being reproduced. I've seen their 55 501 next to originals and as far as cut denim weight and texture they could have been made from the same factory. The only difference the original had an off set back belt loop but Paul T our resident Levis guru said that the offset belt loop could have been just the way the were made at one factory. I can't comment on current 501 STFs because the last pair of those I bought were US made from the late 1990s and they are decent. Not in the same league as some brands that are talked about here or LVCs but for the price very nice. I've heard that the modern 501s STFs are not as good.

Also original 501s were still pretty good through the 1960s. The first year for the paper not leather tag on the waist band was 55 I think. If they're selvage they could be great jeans. Those in new with tags raw unworn condition can fetch a buck or two.
