Canadian Tax Refund for Mail Order?

I plan to make a email order for a peacoat from Toronto cost about 400 CAD and was told I will have to pay 14% canadian sales tax as well. (Crap I lived in San Francisco and our sale tax is 8.725%). Now my questions are:

1. Do I need to pay canadian sales tax for mail order/internet order from US?

2. If I have to pay the tax, will I be able to get the tax refund from Canadian government? I know visitors are eligible to get sale tax refund from canadian government after the visit. But since I am doing the email order, i have no idea...

Anyone out there have the experience please help... This is my first time ordering stuffs from Canada.

1. i though you didn't have to pay taxes when you ordered from outside canada, but i might have been wrong. i'm 99% sure though you shouldn't have to pay the PST, cause you don't have to pay it when you order out of your province so the same thing should apply to you.

2. i'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the taxes back

3.fuck taxes...

Just thought I'd reaffirm this. The provincial sales tax you definitely shouldn't have to pay, and I doubt you should have to pay the federal sales tax either.

LOL. I am now even more confused :confused::confused: after contacting the Canadian Tax Refund department. Below is what they wrote me back. Since I like the peacoat alot i might just gonna pick it up

Dear Sir

Mail order is not eligible for the GST refund. It is only

for visitors who actually visit Canada and stay in hotels

and buy goods for export back to their home country.

Sincerely

CTR
