Are there any brands getting better over time?

Imo it seems that in general any brands first collection/season is always the best. Then its only donwhill from there. Of course there are exceptions. This applies even more to smaller brands. At first when a new (good) brand comes along they seem fresh and innovative. But suddenly when people start to recognize the brand the brand almost always goes more maistream and the innovation and freshness is gone. Evisu is the prime example. It could also be that I dont really like it when a lot of other people are wearing what Im wearing and I try to move away a bit from brands when they've been overexposed.

Thoughts on this?

Is there any brands that keep on evolving and do better the longer they've been in the game?

i think Number (N)ine is getting better with time...that's pretty much the only kind of brand i can think of, one that started fairly recently from more humble roots than where it's at now. I mean I like what houses like YSL are doing but then again with those established houses it's more of a cyclical nature as designers come and go.

i also think as of late, Junya Watanabe is on a creative peak...i wasn't feelin his stuff so much 2 or so years ago, but lately he's been knockin em out the park consistently.

This is probably the primary reason that you feel this way. I would think that a lot of brands get better over time because of many reasons (logistics get better, they get time to perfect their fits, they know better how different qualities stand over time etc.), but then again some brands might grow so fast that they are not able to grow organicallly which results in sloppy work... I don't really know. But I think a lot has to do with you wanting freshness - and maybe not just in the way of looks, fits and quality - but also brandwise.
