Feedback on Detroit Denim and Norman Porter

Your name seems familiar... ;)

Two things that I don't care for on the Detroit Denim...:

Bar-tacks instead of rivets on the back pockets, and inseams that stop at 34". Even for people that aren't as tall as I, 34" is pretty short, especially if you want to have a cuff. I would like to check out their shop as it is pretty close by.

I'm not familiar with Norman Porter.

It seems like there are more companies putting out "artisan" denim. A lot of them seem to be using Cone denim. If I were looking for another US made/sourced pair I'd go back to Roy, as his spec'd Cone Mills fabric is a lot different than the usual. I love my RS03, they don't have the fast fading properties of the Japanese brands, but they are constructed with a ton of well thought out details. I'm sure my pair will last me a long time.

Oddly, so does yours. ;)

I bought a belt from Detroit Denim and they were great to deal with. Norman Porter is here in Philly, just haven't gotten a chance to swing by their shop to check out their stuff. NP has a good looking 14oz grey Japanese denim.

Was hoping to avoid a $250 dollar mistake.

  • 2 weeks later...

I went by the shop (Norman Porter) this afternoon. Tried on a pair to get an idea of sizing. Looks like most of their denim is made to order.

They're going to make me a 32 and 33 in grey 14oz Selvage LHT to try on. Cool shop and easy to work with. Keep you posted when the new jeans are ready.
