pronunciation thread.

^ that might be the correct pronounciation, actually.

one japanese word that's completely bastardized is "karaoke". so many people say car-roo-key. it's kah-rah-oh-kay.

Pronouncing karaoke like that means you probably pronounce "karate" as "kah-rah-TAY" which means you're a huge, huge nerd.

I'm Rex, founder of the Rex Kwan Do self-defense system! After one week with me in my dojo, you'll be prepared to defend yourself with the strength of a grizzly, the reflexes of a puma, and the wisdom of a man.

ain't that bugs bunny song?

i can't pronounce georges bataille.

fuck french words.

i can't even say gainsbourg convincingly.

i've got Lautréamont down, i think: low-tro-mont, it works if i mumble it...

how about pronouncing

Justine Henin-hardenne?

hey, i thought there was no "ay" sound in japanese...

i thought it was he-GEH

confusing.

you're completely correct. i'm just used to explaining people with "ay"s because it seems to be easier for people who grew up with american english. perhaps i should start using "eh"s.

but then, it might seem like i'm canadian or something.

sarte is a little bitch.

an easy one to pronounce: SART

but mufuggas won't know what you are saying and you have to say: SART-truh

it is depressing.

seems we are stuck on non-english words here

as far as english-ish goes, i can't pronounce sangfroid, mainly b/c it is rarely uttered; pronounciation keys only take you so far....
